In 2026, Space is the Place and Goethe-Institut Niederlande launched a joint open call for two residencies in Amsterdam, taking place in June and October. For the second project, selected trumpeter Timothé Lantoine invites three other musicians to explore one simple question: What if a composition was created during the performance? Together they will perform at the Goethe-Institut on October 25th to close the second residency.
Four characters functioning as an ecosystem encounter and react to each other. Four personalities meet and investigate the relationship between real-time music and composition. Every gesture transforms the conditions for the next one; every silence becomes an invitation for another layer to appear. Musical forms are not predetermined, it emerges through listening, negation, compromise, response and/or argument.
Each performer embodies a character, with their own behaviours and relationships, and chooses to interact with predefined material. Rather than fixing musical material, the composition defines relationships: ways of listening, reacting, interrupting, supporting, confronting, or transforming one another.
With flexible desires, the ensemble moves between instruments, voice, text, objects, movement, and techniques, allowing each performance to become a unique situation shaped by the moment and the audience.
