Residency Programmes

Through its residency programmes, the Goethe-Institut seeks to provide a space for new perspectives. Particularly in the age of globalisation, it is especially inspiring for artists and culture producers to ground their works in specific, real places and to pursue their projects for a while, free from economic considerations and to build up or deepen lasting professional contacts.

Each year, with its residency programmes and their variety of focuses, the Goethe-Institut New Zealand offers artists and other culture creators opportunities to live and work in Aotearoa New Zealand for a period of time. The residency programme’s focus is not on one-time presentations. Instead, the projects’ success and significance become evident in long-term exchange and lasting co-operation between the artists.

The Goethe-Institut Ne Zealand is currently offering two programmes:

Visiting Arts Practitioner Programme (Auckland)
In cooperation with Artspace Aotearoa, this programme focuses on contemporary visual arts. The visiting arts practitioner may be an artist, designer, curator, or arts researcher. Selection is made by Artspace Aotearoa in dialogue with the Goethe-Institut, ensuring a strong connection to current artistic discourse.

Artist Residency (Wellington)
Organised in partnership with Wellington City Council and other local collaborators, this residency is not tied to a specific artistic genre. It provides space for diverse creative practices and fosters exchange with the local arts community.
