UNTERRICHTSMATERIALIEN FÜR LEHRKRÄFTE

With the help of these materials, teachers can design motivating DaF-MINT teaching units on the goals of sustainable development.

People who are children and teenagers now will become adults in 2030. Achieving sustainable development goals will directly affect them. It is a question of their real personal lives, and their future. Some areas of activity, due to their daily relevance, are suitable for German lessons with the content that has subject matter related to the natural sciences. This is also confirmed by the fact that the 17 goals are accompanied by a very good, visually rich, and accessible set of materials for schoolchildren in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Among the suitable topics that are especially relevant to daily life are nutrition, water and energy consumption, and consumer behavior. The impact of behavior on the global community can be imagined and compared with the so-called environmental footprint.

These materials allow for motivational German language and scientific subject matter lessons on sustainable development goals. The topics offer a variety of opportunities to activate everyday knowledge and existing vocabulary, deepen familiar syntactic constructions, and learn new ones. By involving the 17 sustainability goals in the overarching topic, students are motivated to take a particularly productive approach toward that topic.
