Celebrating Two Decades of German Archaeological Exploration in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — In cooperation with the German Embassy in Riyadh, the Goethe-Institut in Riyadh, and the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin, we are excited to present “Echoes of Time,” an exhibition celebrating the 20th anniversary of the DAI excavations in Saudi Arabia.

We invite interested people of all ages and cultural backgrounds to take part in our artistic workshops as part of the international project "A Worn World". There, stories and experiences on the subject of clothing are exchanged and artistically processed. The event will take place at the L’Art Pur Foundation, Riyadh.

We invite young emerging female artists of all disciplines to participate in the international project "A Worn World" in Riyadh at the Art Pur Gallery from 29 September - 5 October 2014.

For the third year, Art Jameel and Goethe-Institut Saudi Arabia are collaborating to offer an opportunity for Saudi-based experienced artists and practitioners to join internationally renowned collective Slavs and Tatars as part of an in-practice residency and mentorship programme exploring the confluence of theory and practice, discourse and production.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary 2024 of the German Archaeological Institute's (DAI) involvement in the excavations in Saudi Arabia, the German Cultural Institute (Goethe-Institut) and the German Archaeological Institute are jointly issuing an open call for artists photographers based in Saudi Arabia.

Living and working as an artist, and successfully proving oneself in the local and international art arena is not only enough to improve one’s artistic qualifications and techniques, but also to find one’s own path and walk with confidence, affirming oneself and one’s art.
 

The Academy for Theatre and Digitality is a globally unique model project for digital innovation, artistic research and technology-oriented education and training for all types of performing arts. The focus of artistic research is the question how digital tools can be used meaningfully and sensually on, in front of and behind the stage: So what can a theatre of the future look like that is open to digital change and its possibilities?
 

The Goethe-Institut and the Red Sea Film Festival in cooperation with the Film Academy Baden- Württemberg, Ludwigsburg (Germany) call for submissions for a unique three part scriptwriting clinic that leads to a production of three final films in the category Live Action Short Film.

The Goethe-Institut, and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Jeddah are launching a joint Open Call for artists from Saudi Arabia with the aim of strengthening the networking of the artistic scenes in Saudi Arabia and Germany. The focus is on artistic practice in the context of the work of different, also marginalized communities.

Goethe-Institut and Alliance Français in Saudi Arabia in cooperation with Gharem Studio offers the opportunity to work with internationally renowned photographers Scarlett Coten (France), Susanne Kriemann (Germany) and Tasneem Al Sultan (Saudi Arabia) in a 10 day on-site workshop in Riyadh. The workshop offers crucial exposure to the collaborative equal-sensitive practices and the possibility to review your work in the context of the ongoing social changes in Saudi Arabia.
 

Art Jameel, Goethe-Institut Saudi Arabia and Berlin-based art collective Slavs and Tatars are delighted to announce that Saudi video artist Anhar Salem has been awarded the inaugural Berlin/Jeddah In-Practice Residency. The residency includes a two-month immersion in Slavs and Tatars’ experimental Berlin studio, during which Salem will be embedded as part of the collective, integrating her practice with theirs, followed by a public programme at Hayy Jameel, fully conceived and run by Salem.

In collaboration with Art Jameel and Goethe-Institut Saudi Arabia, internationally renowned art collective Slavs and Tatars is offering an in-practice residency and mentorship programme for experienced practitioners interested in the confluence of theory and practice, discourse and production. The programme offers practitioners crucial exposure to both the front-house and back-house operations of a professional artist studio with global engagements.

Saudi artists Roaa Lamfon and Nouf Almugairin walk us through the circumstances and creative processes that birthed their artistic pieces presented in this session. The two met during The Hospitable Ear, a participatory workshop exploring listening as a practice; organised by Hayy Jameel and the Goethe-Institut and led by German researcher and artist Julia Tieke and Saudi urban strategist Zainab Ali Reza.

Abstract: In June 2021 the Istikshaf programme, a digital and physical networking and capacity building scheme, was initiated by SAC, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Jeddah and the Goethe-Institut.

Listening – while often considered passive – has also been framed as active perception, as a turning to the “other”, an openness described as “inner hospitality”.

Since the 1970s, artists' books have become both a complementary and independent art form. Over the decades they developed into a movement that plays with all formats such as possibilities of publishing and print-on-demand.
