Seminar II – An Urban Occupation of the Countryside(s)

Today the future is mainly defined, projected and implemented through urban development while the
countryside continues to be regarded and planned as a source of resources for the never ending growing
city. What is the awareness level among architects and spatial planners regarding such relation between
rural and urban, and what impact does it has on the actual spatial planning of the countryside(s).

Seminar III – Back to the Future of the Countryside
There is a urgent need to develop new tools for how listen, analyse and communicate the challenges and
possibilities for the European countryside(s). Within this seminar we ask ourselves what new know-how
needs to be generated in order to develop a situated spatial planning in rural areas.

European countrysides are in the frontier of spatial and ecological change. Hinterlands+ consist of a series of mapping conversations on the conditions of rural Europe and the impact of climate change. Hinterlands+ is a cooperation between Goethe-Institut Schweden and LABLAB. For more information on the program please visit lablab.se.
