Are you employed as a teacher of German? The language department at the Goethe-Institut New York works together with teachers, schools and other institutions of higher education in order to strengthen the German teaching profession in the New York region and in the following states covered by our Netzwerk Ost: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachussetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida. 


The Goethe-Institut offers more than 1000 professional development courses for German teachers all over the world and online.

Service and Activity


The German American Partnership Program (GAPP) is a non-profit high school exchange program between schools in Germany and the United States, sponsored by the German Foreign Office and by the US Department of State.

Just Add German provides teachers with helpful tools such as celebrity testimonials, a new brochure, new promotional materials, and webinars.

BE THE ONE – International German Olympics (IDO) 2016

The Goethe-Instituts in the USA and the Internationale Deutschlehrerverband (IDV) invite US high school students to participate in the two preliminary rounds of the IDO and to qualify for the international final round in Berlin. Submission deadline is October 5.
