Of what dreams an astronaut?

Born in Annecy, France, Benjamin Tran is a French Canadian artist. After graduating in graphic design at the Lafontaine School and spending a year studying at the Condé School in Paris, Benjamin moved to Montreal in 2012. The artist plays with the terms time and space and creates endless scaffoldings, which build a static image in continuous movement. His universe moves slowly and releases a gravity that grounds the viewer and lets his characters plunge into their personal universe.

TIME IS AN IMPORTANT DIMENSION IN MY WORK

"My work is characterized by illustration and often also by the representation of characters. I play with black and white compositions in subcultural as well as popular science contexts and draw different scenes of characters floating in space and time. Fully concentrated in their activities, they are caught in a kind of slowing down.

Time is an important dimension in my work - it does not limit the action, as it is often the case in our unbridled rhythms of life, but the opposite is the case; the activity adapts in time without being affected. It achieves a kind of deceleration that is modeled on the rhythm of the planets, a diminishing speed and heaviness, a release from time that enables emancipation from the environment. "
