Mona is a young girl who fled from Syria to Germany with her family. To help her integrate better into school, Mona’s mother and the very idealistic teacher 'Herr Che' encourage her to join the girls’ football team, which is preparing for an important tournament.

Mona, who loved nothing more than playing football back in Syria, is shocked by the lack of team spirit among the girls and is not surprised when they lose their first match by a wide margin. On top of that, tensions with the boys’ football team at school escalate to the point where both teams are banned from participating in the tournament.
Sieger sein is a film that inspires courage to stand up against injustice — and sometimes to do the “wrong” thing for the right reasons, like helping the team even if it means going against the will of a strict mother and stepping into goal.
It’s a loud, raw, and at times heartbreaking film that has deservedly won international awards.
