The workshop aims to raise awareness of the issue of packaging waste among students and motivate them to actively think about avoiding it and/or disposing of it in a more environmentally friendly way in their own environment.
Yes, what does it have to do with me? Filmmakers Martin Kleinmichel and Kerstin Palme, who shot the documentary film Tonnentaucher on the topic of packaging waste in France, Germany and Italy in 2018, explore this question in this workshop based around their film.
In the process, the students* learn about the path of packaging waste to landfills, incineration or recycling plants. Many procedures to dispose or transform waste have become more environmentally friendly. Really all of them? And to what extent is recycling really environmentally friendly and to what extent perhaps just big business? In the film, alternative ideas for dealing with packaging or not creating it in the first place are shown.
