Gesa Mayr, born in 1986, completed a master’s degree at Maastricht University and a journalism traineeship at the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger. She worked in journalism for more than ten years, including five years in various roles at DER SPIEGEL. After several years at Netflix Germany in Berlin, she has been living in Los Angeles since 2025, working as a freelance correspondent and screenwriter. Her writing on pop culture, society and the entertainment industry appears in DER SPIEGEL, STERN and for the Goethe-Institut. She also writes the newsletter The Pop Around the Corner, where she reviews series and films and comments on the Zeitgeist.
