Migration is more than movement. It is a shared human experience.

Routes & Roots brings together artists, activists, diaspora communities, and people with lived experience for a series of international online conversations exploring migration through four interconnected stages: origin, transit, destination, and return. Through art, personal storytelling, and lived experience, the series creates a space for meaningful dialogue and exchange, inviting participants to look beyond headlines and engage with the human experiences at the heart of migration.

Migration is at the center of increasingly polarized debates around the world. Yet the people behind the statistics, headlines, and political narratives are often overlooked. This series offers a space to challenge dominant narratives, foster understanding, and explore migration as a shared human experience that shapes communities, identities, and cultures across borders and generations.

The series consists of four conversations centered on four interconnected, though not necessarily linear, stages of migration: origin, transit, destination, and return. Bringing together diverse voices from across regions and disciplines, these discussions examine the complexities of migration and the ways it influences and enriches societies, identities, and collective imaginaries.

All sessions will be streamed live on Zoom and are open to participants from around the world.

Routes & Roots brings together transatlantic voices from North and Latin America, Europe, and beyond. Centered on stories of belonging, resilience, and creativity, the series explores how movement across borders influences personal journeys and collective futures.

The series is presented by Claudette Walls Manllo, Goethe-Institut Mexico, and Goethe-Institut Washington.

In addition to the live conversations, audiences can discover the artistic work, research, and publications of the series participants and explore their ideas, perspectives, and creative processes through exclusive multimedia content accompanying the series.
