11th Edition
In Malaysia, the Science Film Festival celebrated it’s 12th edition in hybrid format from October 1 to December 20 with an official selection of 63 films chosen by the Malaysian selection jury. The festival was supported by the Malaysian Ministry of Education, Rolls-Royce, SEAMEO STEM-ED, Association of Science, Technology & Innovation (ASTI), Pusat KoKurikulum Negeri Terengganu (PKNT), Women's Aid Organisation (WAO), Malaysian German Educators  Association (MDLV), Alliance Francaise Kuala Lumpur (AFKL), French Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, University Malaya, Educational Cooperation Programme (BKD) and The Schools: Partners for the Future (PASCH) network.

The Science Film Festival in Malaysia was officially opened on the November 6 in the Dadi Cinema in the Pavillion Mall Kuala Lumpur with speeches and screenings in front of over 200 students and partner representatives. During the festival period, a total of 113 physical screenings followed by post-screening activities were conducted by 109 participating education institutions which include 84 primary schools, 24 secondary schools, one vocational college and one university. The festival reached 11 017 students with the support of 772 education officers and teachers nationwide.

In addition, a special community empowerment screening was conducted by an international civil society organisation that benefited 40 underpriviledged youths from the refugees community. Through the online screening platform, Malaysia reached 10 000 views with 3 000 respondents to the evaluation survey. This is the result of a concerted effort by all festival partners made possible with the support from various governmental agencies and non-governmental initiatives.

Over 30 pre-jury members with expertise in science education and science communication in the participating countries and in-depth knowledge of the local target audience are closely involved in the selection process. All films are translated and synchronized or subtitled into local languages where necessary to offer access without language barriers.
