13th Edition
In Malaysia, the Science Film Festival celebrated its 13th edition in hybrid format in 2023 from October 1 to December 20 with an offi cial selection of 41 fi lms chosen by the Malaysian selection jury.

The festival included numerous state and national partners such as Association of Science, Technology & Innovation (ASTI), Pusat Kokurikulum Negeri Terengganu (PKNT), Pusat Kokurikulum Negeri Selangor, University of Malaya (UM), Sarawak State Library (Pustaka Negeri Sarawak), Haus Kch, Komuniti Filem Titiwangsa (KOMFIT), Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF), Borneo Eco Film Festival (BEFF) and PASCH (Schools: Partners for the Future).

For the fi rst time, the Science Film Festival Malaysia was also launched in the East Malaysia in collaboration with the Sarawak State Library in Kuching, Sarawak. In 2023, the Science Film Festival was supported by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, as well as Rolls-Royce as key regional partner in Southeast Asia.

The participation of numerous interstate and interdisciplinary partners, made it possible for the event to deliver an impactful engagement with the target audience countrywide through 190 on-site screenings involving 171 schools and benefi ting 29,416 students with the coordination of 2,372 science teachers and STEM facilitators.

Pre-Jury

Over 30 pre-jury members with expertise in science education and science communication in the participating countries and in-depth knowledge of the local target audience are closely involved in the selection process. All films are translated and synchronized or subtitled into local languages where necessary to offer access without language barriers.
