Harun Farocki: Between Two Wars
Harun Farocki: Between Two Wars

In his first full length feature Harun Farocki inspects the idea of rationalisation by looking at Germany’s blast furnace industry between 1917 and 1933. He reconstructs how the idea was put into practice, became successful and then failed, eventually leading to collaboration between the industry and the National Socialist regime. It is an anaylsis of the economic causes of fascism, which, Farocki said, he pushed to the extreme to test the limits of his method.

West Germany 1978, b/w, 85mins. With English subtitles. Director: Harun Farocki. With Ingemo Engström, Hartmut Bitomsky, Jeff Layton, Renée Schlesier, Stephan Mattusch, Willem Menne, Peter Fitz.
