Bonn, the former capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, is in the southern region of the state of North-Rhine Westphalia. Germany's only UN city is home to the headquarters of 19 UN secretariats and some 150 international organizations. The main building of the University of Bonn was once the residential palace of the Prince Electors of Cologne. Formally known as the Rheinische Friedrichs-Wilhelm-Universität, it is one of Germany's largest and most respected universities.
