Surrounded by Frankfurt’s complacent bourgeoisie and Hessen’s state politicians, the novel’s protagonists move within the city’s left-wing student circles. They discuss the state of the world, their relationships and what they want from life, as well as the manifesto of a so-called Andrej Kirillow. The manifesto seems to offer hope.

Andreas Maier depicts a group of young idealists, torn between Frankfurt’s cider bars and political protest.
