Angela Krauß

Die Überfliegerin

The High-Flyer
Suhrkamp Verlag, Frankfurt am Main 1995, 124 pages

The title of this book could arouse the impression that it is a rather superficial tale. But nothing of the sort. The Leipzig author has written a light, cunning and shrewd novel. [...] Angela Krauß has spun and woven her text finely: from threads of memory, images, autobiographical snatches and cross-fades. That many people in the former GRD still suffer considerably from the loss of identity and confusion of both heart and head remains undisputed in the novel. The narrator neither complains about this nor accuses anybody, but rather only makes it plain – in her own sad-cheerful poetic manner.
