What is CARP about?

Teachers always reflect on their lessons: What worked well and what could be improved? These reflections often inspire new approaches or adjustments to classroom activities.

The Goethe-Institut invites teachers in state schools in Victoria to participate in the next round of CARP (Classroom Action Research Projects), following a successful pilot earlier this year.

This initiative supports teachers in conducting practical, classroom-based research. Starting with a guiding question (“What will change in my teaching if I try X?”), participants observe their own teaching, reflect on the outcomes, and consider how these insights might shape future practice. The Goethe-Institut offers expert support throughout all stages of the project: from formulating the research question to implementing the project, reflecting on the results, and presenting findings.

Here are some sample questions from our Term 2 pilot:
  • What happens in my lessons when students start each lesson with a short oral interaction exercise?
  • What impact does dedicating a significant portion of lesson time to student presentations have on learning outcomes?
  • What happens in my lessons when I deliberately incorporate space for choices and interests of the students into my workstations?
The project is supported by the Victorian Government and participating teachers receive an allowance of AUD $500.
