"Mea Culpa" by Patrick Tass celebrates its Belgian preview at Cinéma Galeries on 1 February as part of the international competition of the Festival En Ville ! The documentary was developped in 2022 in the framework of the Halaqat Audiovisual Residency at Atelier Graphoui.

About the film "Mea Culpa" (BE 2024, 72'):
Lies and guilt are at the core of Patrick’s relationship with his mother Randa. Over the years, he collected their audio messages and video calls. He now transforms them into a portrait of her life in Lebanon and his in Belgium. By turns moving, provocative and hilarious, Mea Culpa questions the links between national and sexual identities for a young Palestinian emigrant.

Patrick Tass is a Belgian director of Palestinian origin born in Beirut in 1992. He completed degrees in directing at ALBA (Lebanon) and scriptwriting at the ULB (Belgium). Today, he lives in Brussels, working in the world of cinema. He teaches cinema analysis and scriptwriting courses at various Belgian cinema labs. He is a script doctor at Jay Dreams LLC. He has also worked in editing, casting and content development. He is currently directing two short films and cowriting a feature-film. In his works, Patrick focuses on themes such as identities and sexualities. 

The Festival En ville ! (In town) is a documentary film festival about our territories, their imaginary, and those who inhabit and/or bring them to life. En ville ! is a multifaceted and inclusive festival, where to see unique creative documentaries and engage into cinema and society debates in a convivial atmosphere. It is organised by by LPC - Regards sur les Docs and takes place from 29 January until 4 February 2024 in Brussels.


The Halaqat film residency was organised in 2022 by the Goethe-Institut and Bozar in collaboration with and at Atelier Graphoui and Cinemaximiliaan and with the support of SIC - SoundImageCulture.

Halaqat started in 2021 as a grant co-financed by the European Union (under the designation: EU-LAS CULTURE), the Goethe-Institut and Bozar - Centre for Fine Arts Brussels. The project was implemented by the Goethe-Institut in collaboration with Bozar from 01.02.2021 until 31.01.2023. Halaqat continues with its own funds and with activities in Europe and in the Arab worlds. Its contents are the sole responsibility of the organisers and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union.
