Domination

As part of the 30th edition of the Ecrans Noirs International Film Festival (2026), the Ecrans Noirs Association and the Goethe-Institut Kamerun are organising a short film scriptwriting and directing competition called ‘‘10 days for 1 film’’. 

Theme
The theme chosen for the 2026 competition is ‘’Domination’’.
According to the Larousse dictionary, domination refers to the act of exercising authority, power, or superior influence over someone or something—whether political, moral, psychological, orphysical. It implies a relationship of ascendancy, superiority, or subjugation. Domination can occurat various levels: with in the family circle, inprofessional, friendly or marital relationships, among communities, or in geopolitics. The history of humanity and of societies is a history of domination, but also of its opposites—independence, freedom, and the struggle to achieve them.


Objective
The aim of the competition is to identify promising young filmmakers and encourage them to write, direct, and produce films that engage with the theme of domination.

Competition Rules
  • Be Cameroonian, reside in Cameroon, and be at least 18 years old as of February 10, 2026, and no more than 30 years old as of June 10, 2026.
  • Propose a text based on the proposed theme
  • Each candidate is entitled to one script only
  • The film must be between 3 and 10 minutes long
  • Submit an original script in French or English (although the film may be in a Cameroonian national language)
  • The film must be shot in the Centre region of Cameroon
  • Winners of previous editions of the competition are not eligible to apply

Applications
All applications must be submitted on line via: www.goethe.de/cameroon nolater than 10.06.2026and must include:
  1. The candidate's CV(PDF format, Times New Roman, fontsize12, single line spacing)
  2. A scan of the applicant's National Identity Card or passport(PDF format)
  3. Synopsis (PDF format,10 lines maximum;Times New Roman, font size 12, single line spacing)
  4. A statement of intent (PDF format,1 page maximum; Times New Roman, font size 12,single lines pacing)
  5. A dialogue continuity (PDF format, 8 pages maximum, fontsize 12,single line spacing).
Results
The results of the first selection phase for the 10 most relevant projects will be published on 01.07.2026 and available on the Goethe-Institut and Ecrans Noirs Facebook pages. A pitching session will then be organised to select the 3 (three) best projects. The authors of the 3 selected projects will be invited to take part in a rewriting workshop from 17-22.08.2026 in Yaoundé. Following this workshop, the three projects will be produced between 21-30.09.2026 in Yaoundé.

Production and post-production
The 3 (three) projects selected will each receive funding of one (1) million CFA francs and a complete production team provided by the organisers. Filming and editing will take place from 01.10-19.11.2026 in the location of the director's choice in Yaoundé or the surrounding area. Films must be completed, including post-production, by 20.11.2026.

Prizes and awards
The 3 films produced will be screened during the 30th Ecrans Noirs festival. Prior to this, the jury will select the winner after a screening and an audition of the directors. The results will be announced at the closing ceremony of Ecrans Noirs festival. The winner will receive a film training course in Germany and a production fund of two (2) million CFA francs in 2027.
