Goethe-Institut Nicosia

Phaneromenis 70 and the Goethe-Institut Cyprus invites you to the screening of the documentary Donna Haraway: Storytelling for Earthly Survival (2016, 81 min.) by Fabrizio Terranova.

The film Donna Haraway: Storytelling for Earthly Survival is a portrait of Donna Haraway, the prominent scholar, whose work on gender identity and technology became known in the 1980s. Her ideas on feminism, inter-species companionship and posthumanism have sparked debates in areas as diverse as primatology, philosophy and evolutionary biology. The filmmaker Fabrizio Terranova visited Haraway in her home in California, drawing an intimate portrait of the exceptional thinker.

The screening coincides with the workshop Topophilia conceived by Berlin-based writer and curator Vanessa Oberin. Topophilia focuses on the relation between ecology, art and feminism with reference to the Cypriot landscape that defines our perceptions of the island. The workshop will take place from May 29th to June1st at Phytorio in Nicosia. Through an open call local artists have been invited to participate in nature walks, discussions on selected texts, exhibition visits and the conceptualization of artworks in response to the workshop program.

The workshop and subsequent publication Topophilia is the 20th chapter of the ongoing Delivering Views program by Phaneromenis70, which deals with ramifications of ‘place’ by circulating images and texts about Cyprus from travelers and locals.

With kind support by CBA Centre de l'Audiovisuel à Bruxelles.
