Biography, Drama, History // 141 minutes // 2001 // Directed by: Caroline Link

In 1938 the young Jewish lawyer Walter Redlich succeeds in moving from Germany to Kenya. Together with his wife Jettel and daughter Regina, he wants to lead a modest life managing a farm. While Regina quickly settles and makes friends, her spoiled mother has trouble adjusting to a place where a canister water has more worth than Meissen porcelain. This tests the already tense relationship between Walter and Jettel.
