Beuys
Social Sculptures
Directed by Andres Veiel | 2017 | b/w and color | 107 min
Beuys is often misunderstood to have meant that a profound analysis must be characterised by great seriousness. Humour is considered the exact opposite; it supposedly only touches the surface of things. In the reception of Andres Veiel's Beuys documentary, it was then reported with amazement of the "surprising realisation" "with how much humour Beuys turned to his environment." Andres Veiel is not only interested in the artist and his oeuvre, but also in Joseph Beuys as a person, in his humour and his public statements. Veiel stated that the focus is not so much on the 1960s and 1970s, but: "What I found much more important and interesting is today, the political idea-spaces that Beuys explored".
