INPUT (INternational PUblic Television) is an annually held TV-conference and non-governmental association whose delegates are TV-professionals from public television services and film experts from all over the world. Its foremost purpose is the promotion of public service television as a driving force in society. The INPUT conferences in 2017, 2018 and 2029 took place in Thessaloniki, (Greece), in Brooklyn, New York (US) and in Bangkok, (Thailand).
In order to enable TV-broadcasters, TV-professionals, film makers, film enthusiasts and the relevant stakeholders from the industry to access and discuss the TV productions of INPUT, the Goethe-Institut would like to connect Ethiopia to this global network by organizing a Best-of-INPUT 2017-2019 in Addis Abeba. In essence, a conference for local TV-experts, filmmakers and film students where, as at the main conference, productions from the last three INPUTs are screened, discussed and debated.
The Goethe-Institut in Addis Abeba has for this conference prepared 16 international TV-productions separated in ten sessions focusing on different genres, formats and topics that grant attendees the opportunity to discuss relevant questions about public broadcasting. Our two INPUT experienced moderators, François Smit and Surekha Singh from South Africa, will guide you through the program.
The Opening Session takes place on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. It begins with opening remarks and short introduction of INPUT, followed by the screening of the opening film: “Blind Flying”, a Factual Entertainment Mini Series from Switzerland. The event will conclude with a reception program with invited partners.
The conference itself is divided into two sessions where Executive Directors, Producers and Editors from the broadcasting industry a together with filmmakers and film students discuss over specific points.
The project aims to encourage the participation of Ethiopian Broadcasters, TV directors and producers during the INPUT conference in Barcelona, Spain on May 2022, allowing Ethiopian content to be represented for the first time in the history of the global TV-conference. We also would like to highlight that dialogue and the frank exchange of ideas and perspectives are crucial components of the program.
