Biographies as a mirror of self-understanding

The Goethe-Institut Äthiopien offers renowned experts and academics the opportunity for an exchange on "Biographies as a mirror of self-understanding", in which experiences in writing and receiving biographies are shared and similarities and differences are examined across cultures.

At the invitation of the Goethe-Institut, Berhanu Deboch from Ethiopia, Prof. Ivor Agyeman-Duah from Ghana and Prof. Dr. Sven Hanuschek from Germany have developed a concept for the program and the questions of this exchange, in which invited Ethiopian writers, literary scholars, historians and journalists who write biographies can actively participate over two days.

The round table will provide a space to exchange and communicate about the nature and meaning of biographies and the challenges of writing them, including the different starting points, formats, methods, critical approaches, writing styles and intentions of biographies.
