It's probably every daughter's horror: a postcard from Thailand that says: "My dear, I'm fine here, I eat Pat Thai and drink Chang beer. And I've met a woman who is your age. Love, Dad." For a few years now, Carolin's father Dieter has changed a lot. After separating from his wife, Carolin's mother, he swapped hiking boots for flip-flops and has been going to Thailand for a few weeks every year ever since, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends - all over 60 and divorced. The father says he has the best time of his life there. The daughter thinks: Oh God, is my father a sex tourist now? Is Dieter now one of those men who roam the streets of Bangkok with a young, beautiful Thai woman on his arm? What does he want there? Is it now the search for happiness or the race against time that remains? His own father: not a hero, his father: an immoral abuser with gate-crashing panic? HAPPY is a loving and unsparing, cheerful and very personal father-daughter film, the search for late happiness and the question of what love actually is when you are over 60 and afraid of growing old alone.
