Digital Concert Hall 

On 4 December 2025, Concerto Melante with Cantatas by J.S Bach and Telemann broadcast  at the Goethe-Institut Äthiopien. 
 
This program is dedicated to the Baroque art of lament. Members of the Berliner Philharmoniker play on historical instruments, joined by four vocal soloists. 

The evening opens with J. S. Bach’s early Cantatas "Aus der Tiefe rufe ich, Herr, zu dir". Written around 1707, it reflects a time of loss and rebuilding in Mühlhausen after a devastating fire. 

Johann Sebastian Bach’s works bring striking emotional depth. His "Ach, dass ich Wassers gnug hätte in meinem Haupte" and "Wie bist du denn, o Gott" combine sacred texts with vivid harmonies and the "stylus phantasticus". 

Georg Philipp Telemann’s funeral cantata "Du aber, Daniel", possibly written for the funeral of his wife Amalie in 1711, is equally touching. 

A concert of reflection, sorrow, and beauty.
