Anniversary Concert Scharoun Ensemble Berlin

The Scharoun Ensemble marks 40 years with a special concert centered on Franz Schubert’s Octet. Written in 1824 and modeled on Beethoven’s Septet (1800), the Octet expands the chamber setting into a near-orchestral sound. Schubert himself saw it as paving the way to his Symphony No. 9 (1828).

Alongside this cornerstone work, the program includes a piece by Hans-Werner Henze (1926 – 2012) and premieres by composers closely connected to the ensemble. David Philip Hefti’s Des Zaubers Spuren reflects Schubert’s spirit through shared instrumentation and motivic design. Brett Dean’s Ich lausche und ich höre introduces a new dimension with soprano Sarah Aristidou. (Hefti born 1975 in Switzerland, Dean 1961 in Australia.)
