Geschichten vom Schwarzen Meer - Black Sea Lit

The transcultural literature project Geschichten vom Schwarzen Meer - Black Sea Lit reopens the dialog with the Black Sea region. Together with the curators Nino Haratischwili (2023) and Laura Cwiertnia (2024), the Goethe-Institute invites ten authors from Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania and Ukraine to engage in conversation about and beyond the region.

Black Sea Lit Summit

Curators

Laura Cwiertnia (2024)

Laura Cwiertnia is a journalist at Germany's largest weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and a writer. Born in 1987, she grew up in a German-Armenian family in Bremen. As an editor for DIE ZEIT and head deputy of department she helped to develop the newly established Green Ressort. In 2022, Laura Cwiertnia's highly acclaimed debut novel "Auf der Straße heißen wir anders" was published. It is the story of an Armenian family between Bremen-Nord, Istanbul, Jerusalem, and Yerevan. The novel won the Puchheim Readers' Prize and was named by the Council of the European Union Germany's literary recommendation of summer 2022. It is currently being translated into several languages, including Armenian.

Nino Haratischwili (2023)

Nino Haratischwili, born in Tbilisi in 1983, is an award-winning playwright, theater director and novelist. Her great family epic "The Eighth Life (For Brilka)", translated into 25 languages, became a worldwide bestseller, and a major international film adaptation is in preparation. Her work has received numerous awards, including the Anna Seghers Literature Prize. Her novel "The Cat and the General" was shortlisted for the German Book Prize 2018. Most recently, her highly acclaimed novel "The Lack of Light" was published. The author now lives in Berlin.
