Public libraries and school libraries are not only educational partners in the area of reading promotion. They pursue also one and the same purpose: to let children and teenagers have joy in reading and raise their educational opportunities. Cooperation between these 2 sorts of library could not be easy because of the municipal structures in Germany. The German city, Frankfurt a. M. has developed a new model of cooperation which is not only notable in Germany. School libraries receive assistance from the Department “sba” in the City Library Frankfurt am Main during their selection of media, in advanced trainings for their staff and in program arrangement promoting reading. “sba” stands for “Schulbibliothekarische Arbeitsstelle” and means School-Library Department. Mrs. von Jordan-Bonin, the head of the sba and one of her assistants, Mrs. Hanke Sühl will now give us lectures on the work of school-library in Frankfurt. They will show us models and talk about the fundament of this kind of work. The tasks and actions of the City Library Frankfurt will be treated precisely in the lecture. In a talk among experts held after the lectures, attendants will have the opportunity to discuss about the possibilities of cooperation between public libraries and school libraries in South China and think of measures which might set forth such kind of cooperation there.
