Video Art|A collaborative showcase of the Videoart at Midnight Edition (Berlin) and the Videotage Media Art Collection (Hong Kong) video art collections

The third edition of Connective Video will present a selection of works by Morgan Wong (Hong Kong) and Dani Gal (Berlin). Wong’s work explores notions of borders, urban development, and politics, outlining historical contexts and geopolitical phenomena in Hong Kong. The selected works represent Wong’s on-going interest in exploring philosophical questions of space and time. Gal’s works examine the mechanism of re-enacting historical events by using cinematic tools. By reconstructing history artistically, Gal reveals often-overlooked historical facts and questions how meaning and information are typically conveyed in documentary film and mainstream cinema. 
 
Both artists in this program are famous for using video in a particular way that questions conventional narratives. Through the use of various footage and historical imageries, they aim to explore the ways audiences relate to history, time, and space to bring to the forefront larger questions about politics, identities and cinematic imaginations.

Connective Videos
Connective Videos: Berlin – Hong Kong is a new collaborative platform between Germany and Hong Kong, curated by Olaf Stüber (Videoart at Midnight, Berlin) and Isaac Leung (Videotage, Hong Kong), presented by Goethe-Institut Hongkong. The project encompasses the video art collections of the Videoart at Midnight Edition and the Videotage Media Art Collection. In multiple screenings throughout 2018, Connective Videos aims to learn, compare, and reimagine compelling stories told by various German and Hong Kong artists. It will consider histories across various geographical spaces and offer insights into our existing knowledge of video art production and archival practices.

The screening and the post-screening discussion will be moderated by Isaac Leung.
