For the closing programme of the exhibition Courses of Action, curator Carlos Quijon, Jr. will look at the place of Hong Kong in selected films produced in the Philippines. Elaborating on the two films included in the exhibition that prospect the transnational in aspects of production [Sanda Wong (1955)] and the film star [Once Upon a Time in Manila (1994)], the talk will look at other itineraries of the transnational in the interfacing of Hong Kong and the Philippines, particularly in a number of genre films and a recent documentary.
Carlos Quijon, Jr.
Carlos Quijon, Jr. is a writer and curator based in Manila. In 2017, he was international research resident at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul and was also a fellow in the Transcuratorial Academy in Berlin and Mumbai. His writings have appeared in Art Monthly (UK), Trans-Asia Photography Review (US), Asia Art Archives’ Ideas (HK), and is forthcoming in From a History of Exhibitions towards a Future of Exhibition-Making, edited by Biljana Ciric. He was part of the inaugural batch of Para Site’s Workshops for Emerging Art Professionals in 2015.
