- Part of series: CIVIL SOCIETY AND ART
Civil society and art are often in a dynamic interrelationship: social themes that are perceived as relevant and meaningful find their expression in the arts. And art offers a medium for social debates. Hong Kong, with its vibrant cultural and creative scene and a very active civil society, is an impressive testimony to this. Furthermore, it is interesting for the local scene to see how it is perceived from outside - for example by artists from Germany - and which questions are addressed to them.
The Goethe-Institut is opening a new series of talks on the topic of civil society and art, in which various areas will be focused on in loose succession. The first event will focus on independent film. We show the two documentaries "Yellowing" (Chan Tze Woon, 2016) and "Lost in the Fumes" (Nora Lam, 2017) and invite the audience to discuss with the filmmakers and the producer. Special guest: Julia Albrecht, documentary filmmaker from Berlin (among others: “Shanghai Fiction”, 2009)
*Please note that the panel discussion with Chan Tze Woon, Nora Lam, Julia Albrecht will be held after the screening of "Lost in the Fumes" on 31th July (Wed).
Online registration *Due to limited seating and a high demand, please contact Mr Willi Kwok at wing-lok.kwok@goethe.de to cancel your reservation if you cannot attend the event.
