GERMAN SPEAKING CONTEST FOR STUDENTS 2020
Final Round|A Future without Plastics?
-
The University of Hong Kong
- Language German and English
- Price Eintritt frei
To encourage students to reflect on climate and environmental protection in Hong Kong, the Goethe-Institut, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Consulate General in cooperation with three universities in Hong Kong are launching a German speaking contest on sustainable development in 2020. Bachelor students at universities and colleges in Hong Kong and Macau are invited to contribute to the question "A future without plastics?" and to demonstrate their German language skills. The final round of the competition will take place on November 21, 2020 at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Winners will receive scholarships for a German course at a university or at a Goethe-Institut in Germany.
Climate change and sustainability have been given greater attention by politicians and the public worldwide thanks to the engagement of the young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and the "Fridays for Future" movement.
The current Covid 19 crisis has had positive and negative effects on climate and environment. On one hand, CO2 emissions have fallen sharply worldwide, and on the other hand, the massive use of masks and packaging has dramatically worsened the problem of plastic waste - in Hong Kong also.
Bachelor's students of various disciplines (full-time) at Hong Kong colleges and universities, who are studying German as a major or minor subject in the current academic year or who are learning German during their studies, could apply to participate in the German Speaking Contest 2020 with 5-minute presentations on the topic of the contest.
In the public final on November 21, 2020 at the HKU, the best 14 participants will present their viewpoints on the topic "A Future without Plastics?"
The independent competition jury consisting of representatives of the Goethe-Institut, the Consulates General of Germany and Switzerland, the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the ALBA Group will select the competition winners.
