Film adaptation of the musical of the same name featuring songs by Udo Jürgens, an icon of German pop music for decades. When Maria, the mother of successful TV presenter Lisa Wartberg, loses her memory after an accident, the life of her career-focused daughter also changes in unexpected ways. For all Maria remembers is that she has never been to New York before, and so she quickly leaves the hospital and goes as a stowaway on a cruise ship to the American metropolis. At the last second Lisa succeeds in locating her mother and also gets on board the ship with her make-up artist Fred. On their unplanned journey, not only Lisa and Fred have unexpected encounters, Maria also makes an exciting acquaintance. And various turbulent entanglements are not long in coming...
