Broadway Cinematheque, Hong Kong
Presented by the European Union Office in Hong Kong and Macau and the Goethe-Institut Hongkong in association with the Broadway Cinematheque, EU-Asia Rainbow Docs sets out to provide local audiences with a modest panorama of the very different ways in which LGBTI+ movements establish their communities and fight for their causes in Europe and Asia – and how filmmakers seek to put these stories on record in their documentaries.
Featuring 12 features and 4 shorts – plus online talks with directors and festival programmers – Rainbow Docs is designed to foster a global perspective on the many different issues LGBTI+ communities had to – and still have to – confront in the here and now.
From French drag queens to Japanese trans politicians; from an Italian same-sex couple raising their children to and a Syrian refugee dreaming of competing in a gay pageant; from traumatic recollections from gay pensioners in Berlin and Stockholm, to hopes for the future bubbling in rallies on Taipei’s streets. The fight goes on, and these documentaries provide a testament of days past and what lies ahead.
To encourage exchange among the audience, curators and filmmakers across Hong Kong, Europe and Asia, the programme also features a series of talks to complement the screenings, including:

- 10.07. (Sat): a dialogue between European and Asian documentary filmmakers
