Often exhibitions think about accessibility only after artworks have already been completed and are to be set up in a museum or gallery. But what would happen if artists already thought about accessibility as an integral and essential part of their artistic work? Can access be creative and experimental? And likewise, can curators incorporate issues of access into their curatorial practice and use it as a theoretical and practical driving force while working closely with artist:s so that ultimately an exhibition is created that becomes accessible to a more diverse audience?

In her presentation, Dr. Amanda Cachia outlines how a growing number of artist:s, curator:s, and scholars are thinking about ideas for access through experimental approaches to exhibition production and artistic practice.

This lecture opens the topic of inclusive curating. The Goethe-Instituts in East Asia are organising an online series for curators from May to July 2022 entitled: "The Hidden Project. Creative Lab on Curation and Access in East Asia". More information: https://www.goethe.de/ins/cn/en/sta/hon/ver.cfm?event_id=22660690
