Join us for a unique workshop that brings together creativity and cultural exploration! In this session, we'll dive into the imaginative minds of people in Hong Kong and their perceptions of the Netherlands. Participants will have the opportunity to create a 3D collage, blending elements of both cultures in a vivid and tactile form. Whether it's the iconic Dutch windmills, tulip fields, or the bustling streets of Amsterdam interpreted through the lens of Hong Kong's vibrant city life, this workshop promises a fusion of colors, textures, and ideas. No prior art experience is needed – just bring your imagination and enthusiasm! This is a fantastic chance to learn, create, and share perspectives in a fun, supportive environment. Don't miss this journey of creative expression and cultural discovery!
Kurt Tong (Hong Kong b1977) is an award-winning visual artist; his work explores themes of identity, memory, and the concept of home, influenced by his British and Chinese upbringing. His notable projects include "The Queen, The Chairman and I," a deeply personal exploration of his family history across three generations and two continents; "Combing for Ice and Jade", a love letter to the artist's nanny; and "Dear Franklin", an epistolary novel about a love story during WW2 China, his work blends personal narrative with larger historical and political contexts.
Notice: Please bring along any imageries, be it photographs, drawings, magazines, illustrations of how you imagine the Netherlands to be, ideally already printed out. As a group, we will cut, stage and create a 3 dimensional collage of NL x HK.
