Begun in 2023, encounters is a Berlin-based bookshop project with a focus on contemporary East Asian perspectives and experiences. More than a bookshop, encounters also organises events and happenings with different collaborators, in the spirit of bringing forth encounters and conversations in various forms.
In the summer of 2025, the bookshop project turns into something concrete – a physical bookspace on the Prinzenallee, Berlin. Jointly run with two Sinophone cultural initiatives, encounters is an open platform for cross-cultural dialogue, knowledge and resource sharing and solidarity between the diasporic communities.
On 12th March, we are pleased to have Mary Lee, the brains behind encounters, to share with us her experiences in running a bookshop/cultural space in Berlin.
