GoetheHaus Jakarta

We are happy to invite you to the next installment of the ArtHouse Cinema program on Tuesday, the 9th of February 2016. This time we will screen the film called Lovely Man directed by Teddy Soeriaatmadja.

The story is about a simple muslim girl name Cahaya (19) who is from the village of Central Java arriving at the big city Jakarta to find her long lost father.  Cahaya’s father left her when she was four years old.  She was only raised by her mother and her mother raised her under strict muslim values.

The search for the father leads her to a rundown apartment complex where her estranged father lives.  As she asks around for information regarding the father a lady who lives in a building tells Cahaya where she can find her father.  Cahaya was told to go to a place call Taman Lawang.

Cahaya who is still tired and exhausted from her long trip from Java still forces her way to go to Taman Lawang to find her estranged father. As she arrived in Taman Lawang she was surprised by what she saw there. It turns out that Taman Lawang is place where transvestite prostitutes make their money.

The story unfolds in that one night where they spend together walking the streets of Jakarta and how the encounter changes their lives where they were force to learn about love, lost and redemption.
