Berlin, die Sinfonie der Großstadt

We are happy to invite you to the next installment of the ArtHouse Cinema program on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. This time we will screen the film called Berlin, Symphony of a Metropolis directed by Walther Ruttmann.

Walther Ruttmann is a pioneer of modern multimedia art. His first short films are unique experiments with forms, colors, and rhythm, his innovative commercials connected abstract animation art with concrete messages. The symphonic documentary Berlin, die Sinfonie der Großstadt (Berlin, Symphony of a Metropolis) is one of the most famous silent classics. The Munich painter and filmmaker Walther Rutthmann made a unique pioneering work with his film and sound experiments, which still looks brand-new and modern even today.

Arthouse Cinema

Arthouse Cinema is the regular film program of the Goethe-Institut. Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month we screen independent movies, avant-garde movies, retrospectives, experimental films or documentary films from Europe and Indonesia – anything but the mainstream.
