Examination Chennai



8.1 The examination fee has to be paid separately on the exam registration dates as per the schedule.

8.2 Internal candidates have to bring their Receipt /Student ID, two photographs and the prescribed exam fee on the scheduled dates, failing which the candidates have to appear as external candidates. Internal students who do not take up the examination on the prescribed date after the course completion, will be considered as ‘‘External Candidates’’ for exam registration on any other date.

8.3 Participants writing the ‘’Goethe Zertifikat B1, Goethe Zertifikat B2 and Goethe Zertifikat C2’’ examinations for the first time will have to write the examination for all the four modules. In the subsequent attempts one can write the examination only for the module which one has not been able to clear in the first attempt.

8.4 No refund / transfers or adjustment of the examination fee is possible.

8.5 Guidelines for External candidates

The Online Portal opens at 16:00 hrs on the E- Application Date


Step 1: On the E-Application date, candidates are requested to register for the examination using the online portal http://www.goethe.de/ins/in/en/che.html only.

Step 2: Selected candidates will be intimated through the registered e-mail ID on the confirmation mail date. If the candidate has given incorrect email id / date of birth / Id proof number/more than one entry, the candidate cannot be intimated about his or her registration process.

Step 3: The following documents are mandatory for registration and have to be produced on payment date.
• Copy of the confirmation e-mail
• 2 passport size photos (not older than 6 months)
• A copy of Licence or Passport or Voter`s ID (as mentioned in the E-Registration form) (The photo in the ID should prove the identity beyond doubt.)
• Examination fee in Cash or DD

Candidates who have received a confirmation mail can send their documents through courier on or before the mentioned date. The institute reserves all rights to reject the application for missing documents /incorrect documents/ documents received after the prescribed courier date.

8.6 Special arrangements can be made in the case of participants with special needs provided appropriate proof of the need is documented at the time of exam registration.

8.7 Certificates - Internal Candidates: Participation certificate and examination certificates will be sent only through courier within fifteen working days after the announcement of the examination results. Candidates who are not registering for the examination have to however submit the envelope to get the course participation certificate. The Institute is not responsible for the participation certificate after two months from the last date of the course. If the candidate fails to fill the envelope, the Institute will not be responsible for the certificate.

The following documents are mandatory for registration and have to be produced on payment date.
  • 2 passport size photos (not older than 6 months)
  • Course participant number (registration is not possible without the ID number)
  • Examination fee in cash
8.6 External Candidates: Examination certificates will be sent only through courier. Examination certificates will be dispatched within fifteen working days after the announcement of the examination results. If the candidate fails to fill the envelope, the Institute will not be responsible for the certificate.

8.8 The certificates will be issued according to the details in the hall ticket. There is no possibility for any change once the certificate is issued.

8.9 Viewing of Exam Papers: The results of the exam may be viewed by the candidate within two weeks of receiving their exam results. All requests are to be submitted in writing to the exam department or by sending an E-Mail, with name of the candidate, name of the examination, examination date and the candidate's examination ID number, along with a fee of 1000/-. Merely pointing out that a certain number of points was not achieved does not qualify as a sufficient reason for an appeal. The Goethe-Institut Chennai / Max Mueller Bhavan may reject requests that are based on unsatisfactory reasons. Appointments will be given to the candidates on a Friday between 15:00 to 16:00 hrs. Candidates are requested to come to the institute one hour before the appointment to complete the formalities.

9. Liability of the Goethe-Institut

9.1 The liability of the Goethe-Institut Chennai/Max Mueller Bhavan and its staff shall be limited to intent and gross negligence. Goethe-Institut Chennai /Max Mueller Bhavan also accepts no liability for the cancellation of services due to force majeure (e.g. Natural disasters, fire, floods, war, official orders and all other circumstances beyond the control of the contractual parties
