Colombo & Jaffna

How are thoughts shaped by language ? How does changing ones language change ones thought processes ? How does one cultural heritage translate into different languages and social realities ? These questions arose during German, Jaffna-born author and philosopher Senthuran Varatharajah’s first visit to Jaffna in February 2018 in conversation with poets and writers Kirisanth,  Yatharthan and Brinthan of the magazine Puthiya Sol.

This conversation is increasingly important in a reality where cultures are fragmented globally and the diasporic existence is becoming the norm. Senthuran not only continued this discussion with the Puthiya Sol collective at the 2019 Galle Literary Festival but also with author Anuk Arudpragasam in New York. This project is bringing together all these minds to reflect deeper on these questions in Colombo as well as in Jaffna.
