The Piano Trio

The Power of Three, by the Chamber Music Society of Colombo.

The Chamber Music Society of Colombo (CMSC) continues its series of Chamber Music concerts at the Goethe-Institut Hall on Thursday, 29th September (sold out), at 7:30pm and Saturday 1st of October, at 7:00 pm, in association with the Goethe-Institut, Colombo, and with the support of its co-premier sponsors, A. Baur & Co. and Tokyo Cement Group.

Titled ‘The Piano Trio', this concert will be approximately 1 hour 10 minutes in duration, and will feature three works in this popular Chamber Music genre.

The offbeat repertoire of works by composers early in their stellar careers, begins with one of Joseph Haydn’s first forays into the genre – a charmingly characteristic work in G minor (Hob XV:1) – usually numbered as no. 5 (1760-62)

Beethoven’s Variations in E-flat major, Op 44, is a series of 14 variations on a theme, dating from around 1792. The highlight of the evening for most audience members maybe the English composer Sir William Sterndale Bennett’s Chamber Trio A major, Op. 26 (1839), a delightfully mercurial, Mendelssohnian, and mellifluous work which owes much to the composer’s visit to Leipzig (1836-37).

The featured musicians include the CMSC's Artistic Director, Lakshman Joseph-de Saram (violin); Rochana Ramanayaka (cello); and Ramya Perera (piano). As usual, each work will be prefaced by a brief introduction by the Artistic Director.

Tickets, priced at Rs. 1000 (first come, first served), will be available at the Goethe-Institut gate, 39, R.G. Senanayake Mawatha (Gregory's Road), Colombo 7, from 12th September 2022, 2 pm onwards. Weekends too.

Due to the still ongoing Pandemic, wearing a Mask is mandatory throughout the whole event.
