Live Drawing/Live Concert

On Friday, 20th January 2017 you will have the chance to watch the award winning graphic novelist drawing life to a concert of Sri Lankan singer-songwriter Ajith Kumarasiri aka Rock Ajith at the Goethe-Institut in Colombo. The music is political influenced and let the audience wander trough the rough reality of Sri Lanka. The drawing from Kleist will be visible at a screen.

Live Drawing

Reinhard Kleist was together with the Goethe-Institut from the 11th to the 15th January 2017 at the Galle Literary Festival. Kick-off was his live drawing to the famous Sri Lankan women’s choir “Soul Sounds”. The stirring performance was given a standing ovation by attendees. Further on Kleist was giving a two-hour workshop where the participants were encouraged to draw their own comic figure. The culmination was a conversation with book designer and photographer Deshan Tennekoon.

Live Drawing/Concert

Reinhard Kleist was born 1970 near by Cologne. He studied graphic and design in Münster and lives in Berlin since 1996. He worked as an illustrator for books, Cd’s, advertisement, magazines and animation. For several years Reinhard Kleist is traveling the world giving workshops, lectures and exhibitions. Sometimes under the invitation from the Goethe-Institut. He received numerous awards and prizes worldwide. 2011 he published the graphic novel “The Boxer”, which tells the story of a Jewish man called “Harry Haft”. He survived the concentration camp by boxing against other inmates. Afterwards he moved to the USA for becoming a professional boxer.

In December 2013 Reinhard Kleist had the chance to work in a refugee camp in Northern Iraq. He was interviewing and giving workshops to the people living in the camps. Two years later he published the very successful graphic novel “An Olympic Dream”. It tells the remarkable true story of Somali Olympian Samia Yusuf Omar, who boarded a refugee boat to Europe and drowned in the waters of the Mediterranean.
