The Chamber Music Society of Colombo in association with the Goethe-Institut and sponsored by Fairway Holdings, will present “The String Trio.” Music by Mozart, Haydn, Borodin and Irsen.
Lakshman Joseph de Saram, the Society’s artistic director will perform and moderate the program along with Ursula Nelius, the associate concert master, Saranga Cooray, the acting principal cellist and Nilanthi Weerakoon, principal bassist of the CMSC.

The earliest string-trio form, found in the early Classical period, consisted of two violins and a cello, a grouping which had grown out of the Baroque trio sonata, while over the course of the 19th century the string trio scored for violin, viola and cello came to be the predominant form.
This concert will feature music solely written for two violins, cello and bass
