Otjiwarongo

at the Day of the German Language in Otjiwarongo

About the concert:

Mine and Edgar will be performing on the 21.09. at the Otjiwarongo Secondary School as part of the Day of the German Language.

The concert kicks off at 18h00 on Wednesday evening. The public is invited to attend the free concert. Refreshments are available at the venue. Refreshments will be available at the venue.

Mine convinces her audience with discreet songwriting, a finely woven sound tapestry and powerful vocals. Her personal stories encourage her audience to think about themselves. Beyond all genre categories, her strong piano melodies are tuned with experimental Omnichord sounds. Added with leading drums, minimal guitar riffs and choir vocals her sound suggests a ghostly epic. Mine’s careful way of making music doesn’t aim at moving great things, but rather aims at a return to our intimate intellectual world – back to ourselves.

Edgar Wasser is a rapper who presents his unique kind of humour, which his fans and critics term either as ironic, sarcastic or cynical. Nested sentences and massive skills have brought the, from Munich hailing, underground rapper to established stages and festivals – without unnecessary gimmicks and crazy marketing strategies.

He collaborated with Mine in 2015 to release the song “Alien”. It deals with being different, isolation and xenophobia.

About the Day of the German Language:

Did you know?
  • That there are approximately 120 Million people worldwide who speak German, 90 Million of them as native speakers?
  • That German is the most frequently spoken language in Europe?
  • That university tuition is free in many regions of Germany?
  • That more than 90 000 German tourists visit Namibia each year and that knowledge of the German language increases your employment prospects in tourism and many other fields?
  • That approximately 8 400 children and youth are learning German at 52 schools in Namibia?
  • That there are many possibilities of exchange or scholarship programmes for Germany?
German Connects :) and is a language that offers its students countless possibilities.

In order to make this fact better known in Namibia and to inform the Namibian public about the possibilities German language skills offer to them, the Otjiwarongo Secondary School, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Namibia and the German Embassy, will host the first ever “Day of the German Language” in Namibia on 21 September 2016.

Many Namibian schools from the Otjozondjupa and Oshikoto Region, as well as representatives of the German partner schools of the PASCH network (PASCH- Schools: Partners for the Future), will participate in the event.
The focus of the Day of the German Language will be on activities, games and cultural events revolving around the German language. There will be something for everyone, whether you already speak German or not. Visitors can expect a fun-filled programme including:
  • Concert with the German singer Mine and rapper Edgar Wasser
  • Fairy tale reading with German Ambassador Christian Schlaga
  • Colourful shows by the Otjiwarongo Secondary School
  • Study Guidance as well as a Career Fair organised by UNAM/DAAD representatives
  • Exhibitions
  • Many games, where attractive prizes can be won!
The festivities will start at 9am after a short opening by Mrs. R. Goldbeck (OSS Principal), Ambassador C.M. Schlaga and Goethe-Institut Namibia Director D. Stoevesandt.
