Do you love books or audiobooks in German? Would you like to discuss them with others? Are you interested in literature written by women? Then we have this for you!
Frauen lesen is a German-speaking book club that meets every last Tuesday of the month from 5:30-7pm at the cozy bookshop Undercurrent in Wellington. In a relaxed atmosphere, we talk about books by female authors – across genres, eras, and perspectives.
Our goal is to focus on women writers in literature and to discuss together books that move, inspire, or challenge us. Your gender identity is not relevant for participation – everyone who is interested in German-language literature written by women is welcome.

To participate in the book club, you should have at least a C1 level in German. The books are linguistically challenging, and the discussions also take place in German.
No – everyone is welcome! Even though the book club Frauen lesen focuses thematically on female perspectives in literature, we are happy to welcome anyone who wants to read along and join the discussion – regardless of gender or identity.
No, participation in the book club Frauen lesen is free. You will have to pay the costs of the books.
When we select new books for the book club, we offer a group order for paperback editions directly from Germany. You only need to cover the cost of the book itself; we organize and pay for the shipping. Alternatively, our selected titles are also available digitally – for example, through the Goethe-Institut's Onleihe, on digital readers such as Kindle or Tolino, or as an audiobook. This way, you can decide how you want to read in a completely flexible manner!
Ideally yes, but you are also welcome if you haven't completely managed – sometimes exciting conversations arise from that.
