Bookclub meeting in February
Buchclub|This month's spotlight: "Drei Kameradinnen"
-
The Undercurrent, Wellington
- Language German
- Part of series: Frauen Lesen Book Club
“Frauen lesen” is a monthly book club focused on literature by female authors. Together, participants read and discuss texts from various genres and time periods. The aim is to highlight female perspectives in literature and create a space for meaningful exchange.
In Feburary, we’re reading: Drei Kameradinnen by Shida Bazyar
Since their shared youth in the housing estate, Hani, Kasih, and Saya have been bound by a deep friendship. Years later, the three meet again to reconnect for a few days. But whether they’re sitting on a rooftop, on the bench outside the corner shop, or at a squat party, it becomes clear that they can’t shake off what now so often shapes their everyday lives: the stares, the comments, hatred, and right‑wing terror. Their friendship is what keeps them grounded. Until one dramatic night throws everything into turmoil.
Drei Kameradinnen is a stirring, uncompromising, and moving novel about the extraordinary bond between three young women — and about the one thing that makes a self‑determined life possible in a society that tolerates no otherness: unconditional friendship.
Important Information:
The books will be read in German, and discussions will also take place in German. A language level of at least C1 is required.
By the way, the books are usually also available as e-books, audiobooks, or through our Onleihe library.
Interested in joining? Send us a quick email to info.wellington@goethe.de to express your interest! We’ll keep you informed about future reading cycles and let you know when new spots open up — so you won’t miss a chance to be part of Frauen lesen.
We’d love to hear from you!
