Webinar Saving Memory: Making Silent Films Talk to Us

14th International Silent Film Festival Manila

As part of the International Silent Film Festival, there will be a roundtable discussion which will give light to how different nations have taken initiatives in preserving film heritage through archiving and restoration. Experts from Japan, Italy, France and Germany will exchange with their Philippine counterparts to share best practices.

The webinar will take place before the start of the festival on December 04, at 4pm and will be open to the public. Here are the speakers of the webinar:

Andrea Meneghelli
Mr. Andrea Meneghelli has served as Curator of the Film Collections at Cineteca di Bologna (Italy) for the past decade. A Cinematheque employee since 2001, his work today covers conservation, cataloging, digitization, collection enhancement through new acquisitions, supervision of restoration projects. Mr. Meneghelli graduated from the History of the Cinema Department at the University of Bologna and over the years has been involved in various productions of films and educational audiovisual material. He edited DVD collections devoted to Italian documentary in the silent era and Italian ethnographic documentary. He's author of several essays and articles on film history published and various books, magazines, and periodicals. He is also a member of the advisory board of the film festival “Il Cinema Ritrovato”, which takes place annually in Bologna. 

DAIBO Masaki
Masaki Daibo is Head of Film Collections at the National Film Archive of Japan (NFAJ). He has been part of various digital restoration projects that the NFAJ has undertaken over the past eight years, while also being in charge of film acquisitions and managing preservation of the NFAJ collection.

Don Gervin Arawan
He is presently the head of the Philippine Film Archive, a division of the FDCP that conserves and protects Filipino films as part of the nation's historical, cultural, and artistic heritage. Together with the staff of the PFA, he was able to develop the first Film catalog of PFA deposited films. He also spearheaded the development of the Media Library, where students, researchers, and cineastes can watch the PFA film collection and the recently launched PFA Website that provides access to the public and provides information about the film heritage of the Philippines.
