NEW ISSUE OF FIKRUN WA FANN/ART&THOUGHT

Focus Topic: Displacement
Anila Iqbal Ahmed

The 105th edition of Fikrun wa Fann/Art&Thought is dedicated to the topic of displacement. The current refugee crisis, which has increased in extent and volatility through the civil war in Syria, is the central feature of this edition.

It includes both the historic and political dimensions of flight and expulsion, as well as many personal glimpses into the lives of people who have escaped.

How does one feel directly after escaping war and violence? What fears and worries does one have as someone newly arrived in a foreign country?

The current edition of Fikrun wa Fann/Art&Thought also poses questions about the treatment of refugees in receiving countries. This includes a look at the complex identity of Europe, where many people know escape or migration from first hand or familial experience. It becomes clear that there are not only feelings of openness, but also feelings of inner conflict and fear.

Additionally, in connection with the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, the 105th edition of Fikrun wa Fann/Art&Thought includes a special feature on reforms in Islam as well as the acceptance speech Navid Kermani gave upon receiving the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
We trust you will enjoy reading this especially fascinating edition of Fikrun wa Fann/Art&Thought!
